Special Dietary Needs
The Whale's Tail Grill has been hailed by many as
perhaps Costa Rica's best "Casual, Fine Dining
Experience".
Since our opening in 2005, we have pioneered
"Creative and Healthy World Tropical Cuisine"
taking advantage of our local bounty of organic
fruits and vegetables as well as fresh locally
caught seafood from our mercury-free waters.
We offer a vegetarian option at every meal
(including a special entree for dinner). Generally
the entree follows the same theme as that
particular night's dinner, with the inclusion of
those items requested by the guest (as well as
any exclusions).
We do our best to cater to vegan and gluten-free
needs as well, asking that the guest discuss
special dietary restrictions with us in advance. If
you are Vegan but like seafood and or chicken,
you will be dining with few differences from our
regular daily menu.
If you do not, please refer to the Sample Offerings
below for more detail.
Our Chef, Alex, has years of experience in this
area and is more than willing to go above and
beyond to create a pleasurable dining experience.
NOTE
If you have simple food allergies, these too can be
discussed. Severe food allergies may not be able
to be accommodated, nor may combination
vegan/gluten free needs.

Vegan Dinner Options
You can choose any of the options from breakfast
or lunch if you prefer. Other wise your dinner will
be modified appropriately from that night's special.
We regularly serve many dishes that are "vegan
friendly" anyway such as:
- Various Ceviches - like Wild Mushroom
(several more if you eat seafood)
- Grilled Pineapple filled Avocados
- Skordalia (Greek-stule Mashed Potatoes
made with Olive Oil)
- Grilled Green Bean, Cherry tomato and
Kalmata olive salad
- Pejibaje Bisque (creamy soup without
cream)
- Coconut Rice
- Costa Rica Style Black Beans
- Picadillo (Costa Rican traditional mixed
vegetables)
- Banana Curry Soup
- Couscous with Raisins and Romanesco
Sauce (toasted almonds and sweet
peppers)
- Various Rice based dishes with a variety
of vegetables (and seafood if you prefer)
- Grilled Plantains
- Cheeseless Eggplant Parmesan
